The Pacific War was the geographically largest theater of World War II, fought between Japan and the Allied Powers (United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, China, and France) in East and Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and Oceania. The Pacific War began in 1941 when Japan made attacks on Pearl Harbor, involving the United States, and attacks on Malaya (now Malaysia), Singapore and the Dutch East Indies, involving the United Kingdom. The Pacific War ended when Japan surrendered following the United States’ bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This document from the National Archives was printed in 1945 and includes radio scripts of the ceremonies opening the exhibit of the Japanese surrender documents, and facsimiles of the surrender documents.
