The United States Strategic Bombing Survey released this report, The Effects of Atomic Bombs on Health and Medical Services in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in March of 1947. This report details the effects of the atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on medical facilities and personnel, the nature of casualties, environmental sanitation, food supply, communicable diseases, and industrial health and hygiene. This report provides details and images of the damage done to infrastructure and the environment, flash burns and other injuries to victims, data on the effects of radiation, other illnesses, and deaths. Environmental issues brought about as a result of the bombing include lack of damage to water quality and supply, flooding of sewage and an inability to dispose of waste, amplification of already existing health hazards in the soil, and effects on food supply and nutrition.
