The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, also known as the 9/11 Commission, wrote the 9/11 Commission Report to present recommendations to the President of the U.S., the U.S. Congress, and to the American people. The commission was made up of five Republicans and five Democrats to unify under the purpose of ensuring another attack like this cannot happen. This report investigates “facts and circumstances relating to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001,” including ones related to intelligence agencies, law enforcement agencies, diplomacy, immigration issues and border control, the flow of assets to terrorist organizations, commercial aviation, the role of congressional oversight and resource allocation, etc. The commission reviewed over 2.5 million pages of documents and interviewed over 1,200 individuals in ten countries. The aim of the report was to provide the fullest account of the events of September 11, 2001 and to identify the lessons learned.
