"Rank, Fishy, and Nauseous..."
When first examining the prints of John J. Audubon's Birds of America, audiences often appreciate the beauty captured in these still images of American wildlife. However, there is a fact that most viewers don't know: Audubon ate most of the birds he displayed in his Birds of America.
Birds I've Eaten showcases four prints of Audubon's work, with two prints being commonly consumed bird species that we eat in our day-to-day life, and the other two showcasing bizarre birds Audubon tasted and his notes on them. Although it may seem comical at first, Birds I've Eaten offers a unique perspective on Audubon's prints, provides insight into the approaches of early American naturalists like Audubon and how they differ from contemporary naturlist's' efforts, and transforms this knowledge into an enjoyable journey and experience for its viewers.
